FROM SEED TO TABLE "EASY PEASY VEGGIES"
Are you ready to embark on the exciting journey of starting your very own veggie patch?  We are no experts in this area but from our teams experience we've got some great suggestions for the easiest vegetables to grow when you're just starting out. Let's dig in!
  1. Tomatoes: These juicy and versatile fruits (yes, they're technically fruits!) are perfect for beginners and a veggie patch must! They can be grown in containers or directly in the ground, and they love warm weather and plenty of sunlight. Plus, there are so many varieties to choose from! Perfect for salads, burgers, sauces and relish! (Check out our previous blog on growing the perfect tomato)
  2. Lettuce: If you're a salad lover, lettuce is a must-have in your veggie patch. It grows quickly and thrives in cooler temperatures. You can even grow it in containers on your balcony or patio. Just remember to keep the soil consistently moist.
  3. Cucumbers: These refreshing and crunchy veggies are perfect for hot summer days. Cucumbers love warm weather and need plenty of space to spread out. You can grow them vertically using trellises or let them trail on the ground.
  4. Green beans: Green beans are not only delicious but also very forgiving for beginner gardeners. They're relatively low-maintenance and can be grown in both containers and garden beds. Just make sure they have something to climb on as they grow (We have used lattice right out the front of our Bathurst store)
  5. Zucchini: Ah, one of our favourite's to grow! These versatile veggies are a fantastic addition to any veggie patch. They grow abundantly and are relatively low-maintenance. Plus, they can be used in a variety of dishes, from stir-fries, fritters to zucchini bread and muffins. Just make sure to give them enough space to sprawl!
  6. Spinach: Oh, how could I forget about spinach? From Silver beet to baby spinach leaves. It's a leafy green powerhouse that's packed with nutrients. Spinach is perfect for beginner gardeners because it grows quickly and can tolerate a range of temperatures. It's great for salads, smoothies, or sautéing. Just remember to harvest the outer leaves first to encourage continuous growth. Get ready to Popeye your way to a healthy veggie patch!
